Yogalates is a combination of yoga and Pilates, two disciplines that offer significant benefits for older adults. It emerged with the aim of harnessing the physical and mental benefits of both disciplines, fusing strength, flexibility and body awareness.
Yogalates incorporates Yoga postures or asanas, which focus primarily on stretching and strengthening muscles, improving posture and increasing flexibility. It also integrates specific Pilates exercises, focusing on core, strength, coordination and spinal alignment.
Another benefit of yogalates is that it can be adapted to different levels of fitness and can be practised by people of all ages, including, of course, those over 55. As a combination of yoga and Pilates, it offers a wide variety of exercises and postures that can be adjusted to suit individual needs.
